A Visit from Alex Ballinger MP

We were pleased to welcome Alex Ballinger MP to the Trust on Wednesday afternoon. Alex, has served as the Member of Parliament for Halesowen since 2024 and he was able to learn more about our work and the impact we’re making in Sandwell.

We shared with Graham the Trust’s background, our progress, and the challenges we continue to face. Alex had a brief walkaround of the Wellman Building where he shared our focused work on recruiting foster carers. We are pleased that he is happy to support us in raising the profile in his constituency.

Alex enjoyed meeting Managers and staff from the Rowley localities and Strengthening Families teams who he described as enthusiastic. Mental health support was a major focus as there is a significant gap in services for children and young people, including CAMHS, and it would be beneficial to have more input from voluntary organisations.  Access to adult mental health support was also highlighted, as well as the timeliness of Education Health and Care Plans.

The group reflected on the recent closure of housing for young parents and how important it was to have strong links with our Housing colleagues.

Alex noted that he has received few social care queries from his constituents, which he sees as a testament to the Trust’s positive impact.

Thank you to everyone involved in the visit - Alex advised that he found the session very insightful.
