Dudley visit to FIYA

Colleagues and care experienced young people from Dudley visited the Voice Team and our Forum for Independent Young Adults (FIYA) on Wednesday.

Dudley colleagues were impressed with the dedicated space that we have at Metsec for our young people. They were equally impressed with the visits that the Voice team undertake when new children come into our care along with the 17-plus catch-up visits which provides young people with the information they need in respect of their rights as they transition into adulthood.

They were eager to learn more about the work that our young people do in the induction of new starters which is presented by the Voice Team and young people on a weekly basis.

The team met our Young Ambassadors where young people from Dudley asked a range of questions.  Our young people provided information regarding the activities they had undertaken over the past year, what campaigns they were working on including the work around protected characteristics and also provided information about the benefits of being involved in the forum and how it assists in their personal and social development.

It’s good to see that other areas are coming to Sandwell to identify best practice and I’m sure this will be a common feature going forward.

The forum also received a visit on Wednesday from Chris and Caroline from the LGA Review Team when they popped in to talk about the lived experiences of our young people.  Both Chris and Caroline fed back how much they enjoyed their visit to such a vibrant group of young people!
